Extra Value Services - Writing a Great CV!
A CV is a selling tool that provides clients with that all-important first impression. As such, it is vital for your CV to be as exciting and up-to-date as possible for you never know when that perfect job could appear.
Our experienced Consultants can offer expert advice regarding your CV but in the first instance you may wish to consider the following tips.
Top Tips for Success: -
- Before submitting a CV to an organisation you should consider who it is going to and why they should meet you
- Your CV should be 2 to 3 pages long - it should intrigue but not bore.
- Neat and clear presentation assists the reader. We recommend Times New Roman or Helvetica, font size 12.
- Your CV should include personal details such as name, address, daytime and evening contact numbers and an email address if you have one.
- Highlighting your personality is important; this could be mentioned within a short personal statement at the start of your CV emphasising your strengths and areas you enjoy.
- It is important to include qualifications and grades, especially any professional qualifications and current studies being undertaken.
- When stating previous experience it is important to include dates and reasons for leaving as this will be an advantage if you have had a number of temporary or contract roles.
- Explain in reasonable detail what you have achieved over the last 5-8 years. Jobs prior to this are likely to be less relevant to the application and should be listed as a one liner unless you are seeking to return to a particular career.
- Mention your personal interests as this provides the reader with insight into your personality and cultural fit within the organisation.
Extra Value Services - Interview Skills & Testing
Interview Skills
Having secured the interview it is important to deliver the best impression. The following tips should be helpful: -
- Prior to the interview research the company and read the job description. It is important to equip yourself with company and industry knowledge. If you have any questions regarding an interview please call your dedicated consultant who can offer assistance.
- An interview is your opportunity to convince the interviewer that you are the right person for the job, but remember first impressions do count. Ensure that you: -
- Dress appropriately; we recommend that you always wear a suit or smart office attire.
- Pay attention to detail with your hair, nails, shoes and jewellery.
- Do not smoke or drink immediately before the interview.
- Maintain positive body language and eye contact, show enthusiasm and respond to handshakes confidently.
- Your consultant can provide you with a selection of regular interview questions to assist you with your preparation.
- Competency based interviews are becoming very popular within organisations; for further advice please contact your consultant.
- Show an interest in the role and not the money or benefits - your consultant will brief you on these areas.
- At the end of the interview you will be given the opportunity to ask the interviewer questions. It is useful to think of a few questions beforehand so you look prepared; please ensure that these questions could not be easily answered from the website.
Testing
In certain circumstances we use an online testing package, generally to assess your IT ability. Conscious of your time and convenience, we have designed this for access over the internet at any chosen location.
Some clients also incorporate tests into their recruitment process, varying from general numerical and verbal reasoning tests to department specific ability tests. Your consultant will ensure you are fully prepared by gathering information from the client in order to provide you with a full interview brief.
Although testing can be a daunting prospect for most people it is a successful way of assessing individual ability. It can highlight areas of strength or for improvement and can be a successful selling point to clients.
Extra Value Service - Aftercare Service
We pride ourselves on our long-term partnership approach and offer a comprehensive aftercare package to candidates. We will contact placed candidates throughout the first few weeks of starting a new role and provide feedback to both candidates and clients during the initial stages.
